Ye Olde Goals

10:34 PM Posted by brit , No comments
I've been thinking about this for a while and I thought I should establish some goals.  So:

15 lb loss by Feb 15.  Six weeks sounds do-able right?

A 5K.  Yes ambitious I know, but my trainer challenged me, and since I've decided to stick with him through the 5K I've decided to sign up for, the MFF Woodlands Marathon.

Get back on my bike.  The last two times I was on my bike were Sept 25, the day of the century ride, and Oct 10, Columbus Day.  I'd like to be a little more regular than that...like weekly.  So I'm looking for some rides that will get me back to where I need to be.

Pay down debt.  2011 could be dubbed the year of expenses.  Unemployment, Century Ride, Medical Expenses, Weddings, blah, blah, blah.   Out of control and it needs to get in control.

So that seems like a good starting point.  Also a good starting point, not starting the new year hungover.  Hasnt happened in years.  Happening tomorrow.  What what!

Ye Olde Quote

10:58 PM Posted by brit , No comments
"You are so competitive about the oddest things" - co worker, after me telling her about the cookie competition i was going to.

my goal in 2012: be competitive about this...about trying to lose weight and actually live for the first time.

thats my thought of the day.  and why I love pre resolutions, ha.

oh and I kicked ass in the competition..hehe.

Ye Olde Hangover

10:48 PM Posted by brit No comments
things that arent going to work for me in 2012.
hangovers.
ok so maybe just one thing. ugh. I feel completely useless, and tired and dehydrated to the thousandth power. But not useless enough to not go to the gym tonight.
But at least last night was fun, and it included two very fun parties. Glad I went, and not really sad that I have so little control at parties, because after the holidays I'll be able to completely take myself out of that situation. So whatever.
Ok more recovering and Texans watching. I'll goto the gym during the half of the broncos game later, that'll keep me on the machines. why?

Ye Olde Belief Running=Stupid

10:43 PM Posted by brit No comments
So I tried to find a song that combined running with sucks but google only came up with time is running out by muse. And I like muse, so I dont want to combine it with running.

Which still is at this moment, evil. But I chick'ed up and did day one of c25k today. And it was a great day to do it because no one was outside. Now if I can get through the first three weeks, and dont die, maybe I'll be okay with attempting weeks four and five when everyone is outside celebrating their news years resolutions and what not. So let's see. And more important, lets see how I feel tomorrow...

So anyhoos with that done, I went to the gym and did 30mins of elliptical (because I felt like I was doing more dying than running) came home and baked cookies for the party tonight. And therein was my downfall. But at least I'm trying to eat something healthy for dinner, and maybe I'll attempt to nurse a coffee or something tonight so I wont drink.

And maybe, just maybe I'll blog more tonight. It's been a good day off. I love vacation days...

Ye Olde Fight Club Motivation

10:40 PM Posted by brit No comments
"It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything."
Tyler Durden, fight club.

So wise and true. It's been a while since I've written, and I mean really written. I'm going to try and do that more (so nows the time to subscribe or unsubscribe)

You see I've been thinking about this quote for a while. It reminds me of my biggest failure, weight loss. At the time I was most successful at it, I'd lost my best friend, and really had no friends here in town that I talked to on a daily or weekly basis, I also was somewhere in the process of losing my job. In short, it was 2008.

But in 2008, man I lost a lot of weight. I was free to workout every night, because either there was too much traffic when I left my job to do anything else, or I didnt have anything else to do because I had no friends. So yea, kick ass for the weight loss. It all culminated in 2009, when I did my first bike race. 40 miles, look how far I've come, lol. And then I got another job and it all started to come back. The friends, the after work activities, and sadly the weight.

So fast forward a couple of years. While I'm not at my highest weight of all time, and for fucks sake, lets just be honest, 260. I'm not at my lowest either, where I plateau'd right before I got sucked into the 70+ hour weeks of my last campaign, 215-ish. I'm somewhere in the middle of that. So back to that quote:

"It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything."

A lot of that loss is still there. I dont listen to music or go to concerts as much anymore, and I trust people even less. But I have been happy with the friends I've made since and the career decisions I've made. So back to the weight. After the trials of training for a century ride this summer on a whim, I know two things. 1- I'm crazy. 2- If you set your mind to it, you can truly do anything. This year, or upcoming year rather I'm ready to conquer that weight thing. And since I'm never the type of person to take things one thing at a time. Its going to take a multifaceted approach.

1. I have to move out. As much as I like the free ness of living at home. I dont like the not living near nice hike/bike trails, healthy food establishments situation. That and living alone leaves me with no temptations in the house. Current house - 1 gazillion temptations. Hell, the house smells of bacon right now.

2. I have to save money to move out. Those years of non stable work environment have caught up to me, and I refuse to move out if I havent made a decent dent into my debt. There's a reason only rich, white kids work in politics. They're parents can afford it. In my situation my parents are visa, mastercard, discover and amex very diverse home. I'd like to bid adieu to mama discover and pops amex before I move.

3. I have to stop going out as much. As much as I love this! It gets in the way of working out. One drink turns, into dinner, then another drink and I've blown all the progress I've made. I've done it before when I had nothing, and given the incentive of moving out. I think I can make this happen.

4. There were others but I've forgotten them or something.

So there you have it. And I've truly, truly been inspired by bendoeslife.com, so we'll see where this goes. I want to start writing more, and this is the perfect way to do it...public accountability. Ugh. I'm exploring options on setting up a more public blogger and cross posting there, but until then, because lets face it that's not going to get done until I'm on vacation next week I'll be posting here. And I've had this blog for 9 years...I was a blogger before blogging was cool...so why not post here.

Next post - Goals. Goals for 2012 and rewards to make that happen. And a baseline, tbd next time I weigh in at the gym.

Yes this is really just a note to myself so I remember. New Years resolutions are cool, Starting 3 weeks before new years to get into a habit, even cooler.

Ye Olde BenDoesLife.com

....so I've been reading Bendoeslife.com and that combined with my overwhelming sense of failure in the weight loss area. That said. I think it's time for me to do a 5K.

So I'm in the final stages of thinking about that... I'm giving myself a week to make a final decision.
